Dressage Arena: How to Ride Correctly in a Dressage Arena

Dressage arenas are marked with a series of letters at precise dimensions. In fact, all dressage arenas in the world have the exact same measurements. The standard dressage arena is 20meters by 60 meters with the letters specifically placed to give the rider and judge guidepoints to perform the various figures accurately. In other words, by utilizing the letter placement a rider can be sure to ride an exact 10, 15 or 20 meter circle anywhere in the ring both to the right and the left. Likewise, serpentines, turns, diagonal lines etc. can all be made equal in both directions, a way of proving the balanced training of horse and rider.

Because of the standard dimensions to a dressage arena, there is also a standard vocabulary understood by all riders and instructors the world over. This makes the giving of instructions for riding various patterns and training exercises extremely easy.
